The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf Al-Qidra, announced on Thursday a harrowing update regarding the ongoing crisis in the region. The death toll has now escalated to a staggering 9,061 individuals, with an additional 32,000 reported injured.
Among the deceased, Al-Qidra highlighted the devastating impact on children and women, with 3,760 children and 2,326 women losing their lives. This tragic situation has unfolded since the 7th of October, triggered by an intense and continuous Israeli bombardment following a surprise attack by Hamas on the Gaza envelope. The death toll at that time stood at 8,796, including 3,648 children and 2,290 women.
The Health Ministry in Gaza has also reported a surge in missing persons reports, now totaling 2,060, an increase from 2,030 just the previous day. Among those missing, 1,120 are children. In a stark revelation, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported the loss of 70 of its staff members in Gaza since the 7th of October.
Furthermore, the governmental media office in Gaza, affiliated with Hamas, reported that the Israeli military has admitted to dropping 10,000 bombs since the onslaught began, estimating that over 25,000 tons of explosives have been deployed across Gaza. This equates to approximately 70 tons of explosives per square kilometer of the Gaza strip, highlighting the sheer scale and brutality of the assault.
The ongoing crisis in Gaza is drawing international attention and condemnation, as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate rapidly. The global community is calling for immediate cessation of hostilities and urgent humanitarian aid to assist the thousands affected by this calamity. The region’s infrastructure is severely damaged, and the need for medical supplies, food, and shelter is critical.
In this dire context, the resilience of the Palestinian people in Gaza is being tested like never before. The international community, human rights organizations, and concerned individuals worldwide are urged to stand in solidarity with Gaza, advocating for peace, justice, and a swift end to the violence.
