The death toll resulting from a landslide in China’s Yunnan province reached 25 late on Tuesday, as rescue teams faced challenging weather conditions, including freezing temperatures and snow, in their efforts to locate numerous missing individuals.
Rescue operations continued throughout the night, with workers diligently sifting through deep mounds of earth at the landslide site in Zhenxiong County, as reported by China Central Television (CCTV) on Tuesday.
The difficult terrain and unstable soil prevented the use of large machines in the rescue efforts, according to a statement from a rescuer cited in a report from local media outlet The Cover, owned by the Sichuan Daily Newspaper Press Group.
