Italy’s De Nora and Saudi ACWA Power are forging a strategic partnership that aims to play a pivotal role in Saudi Arabia’s ambitious “Vision 2030” initiative. This initiative seeks to diversify the Saudi economy and reduce its dependence on oil. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two companies was signed during an Investment Forum held in Milan, Italy.
De Nora, known for its expertise in electrode technologies, will collaborate with ACWA Power to facilitate the rapid production of green hydrogen and enhance water and wastewater disinfection technologies in Saudi Arabia. Green hydrogen is a crucial component of the global shift towards clean and renewable energy sources.
One of the key aspects of this partnership is to minimize the carbon footprint in the energy and water sectors, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s sustainability goals. The nation is keen to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and promote clean energy solutions. This collaboration will also support the broader goal of ensuring easy access to clean water and environmentally friendly hydrogen production.
Notably, De Nora, in a joint venture with Thyssenkrupp, is providing alkaline water electrolysis technology for the world’s largest green hydrogen production plant currently under construction in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. NEOM is a futuristic city and economic zone in the northwest of the country, envisioned as a hub for innovation, technology, and sustainable living.
The joint efforts of De Nora and ACWA Power exemplify the importance of international collaboration in advancing sustainable energy and water solutions. As the world moves towards a more environmentally conscious future, partnerships like these are vital for achieving ambitious green energy and sustainability targets.
This collaboration is expected to unlock numerous opportunities for research, innovation, and the development of cutting-edge technologies in the fields of water treatment, hydrogen production, and more. Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” is taking significant steps towards transforming the nation into a global leader in sustainable and clean energy, and partnerships like this one are integral to realizing that vision.
