Chinese Embassy Minister in Cairo Chang Chao reaffirmed China’s commitment to justice and equality, stating that the country continues to work towards de-escalating the situation, protecting civilians, enhancing humanitarian relief, preventing a humanitarian catastrophe, and returning to a “two-state solution” while seeking an early resolution to the Palestinian issue.
Speaking at a press briefing on China’s support for the Palestinian cause, Chang revealed that China has provided two rounds of urgent humanitarian aid worth one million dollars through the Palestinian Authority and UN agencies to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Additionally, China has offered immediate material assistance of 15 million Chinese yuan to Gaza through Egypt, including food and medicine.
He expressed gratitude to the Egyptian Red Crescent for its assistance in this regard.
Chang emphasized that the protection of civilians during armed conflicts is a red line that cannot be crossed in international law.
Any acts of violence and attacks targeting civilians are unacceptable, and any violation of international law, especially international humanitarian law, must be met with strong condemnation.
China once again asserted its rejection of collective punishment of the people in Gaza and opposed the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians. At the same time, all detainees must be released.
China called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its role as a mediator, as mandated by the UN Charter and urged relevant parties to exercise restraint, avoiding the expansion of the conflict, and maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.
Chang emphasized that the Security Council should pay attention to the role of regional countries and regional organizations, support the mediation efforts of the UN Secretary-General and the Secretary-General’s office, and encourage countries with influence on the parties concerned to adhere to an objective and fair position and work together to mitigate the crisis.
The fundamental solution to the Palestinian issue lies in the implementation of the “two-state solution,” the restoration of legitimate Palestinian national rights, and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Chinese diplomat stressed that the UN Security Council should push for the reactivation of the “two-state solution,” convene an international peace conference on a broader and more credible scale, and with greater effectiveness, under the auspices and organization of the UN.
It should establish a clear timeline and roadmap for the implementation of the “two-state solution,” ultimately leading to a comprehensive, fair, and lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue.
