Chadian authorities have initiated the relocation of the first groups of newly arrived Sudanese refugees from the Qoz Amir camp to the new Zebud camp in eastern Chad.
A correspondent from Radio Dabanga reported that the number of refugees being moved is estimated to exceed a thousand, representing approximately two hundred families. A significant portion of these refugees are women, children, and some unaccompanied minors.
The roughness of the terrain, exacerbated by recent rainfall, is hindering the relocation process.
In a related development, construction work is progressing rapidly at the new Maji camp, also in eastern Chad, to accommodate refugees from the temporary Adri camp. Some refugees who visited the site informed Radio Dabanga that the new Maji camp is expected to shelter a large number of the Adri camp refugees due to its expansive area and abundant water supply.
