Benjamin Mendy has signed a two-year deal with the French top-division club Lorient just five days after he was found not guilty of rape allegations made against him by six women.
The club said Mendy had passed a medical and would be at their training ground on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old defender was suspended by Manchester City in August 2021 after being charged by police and was released last month at the end of his contract.
Jenny Wiltshire, Head of Serious and General Crime at Hickman & Rose, said: “Benjamin Mendy would like to thank the members of the jury for focusing on the evidence in this trial, rather than on the rumor and innuendo that have followed this case from the outset.”
Wiltshire added: “This is the second time that Mendy has been tried and found not guilty by a jury. He is delighted that both juries reached the correct verdicts.”
“It has been almost 3 years since the police started investigating this matter. Mendy has tried to remain strong but the process has, inevitably had a serious impact on him.”
Mendy, who has 10 France caps, last played on 15 August 2021, in City’s Premier League game against Tottenham. He joined City from Monaco for £52m in 2017, a world-record fee for a defender at the time.
