On Wednesday evening, the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium urged her country’s government to impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation and investigate the airstrikes that targeted hospitals and refugee camps in the Gaza Strip.
Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter stated in an interview with the newspaper “Nieuwsblad,” “The time has come to impose sanctions on Israel due to the inhumane bombing. It is clear that Israel does not care about international demands for a ceasefire.”
She also urged the European Union to immediately suspend its partnership agreement with Israel, which aims to enhance economic and political cooperation, according to Reuters.
Furthermore, she called for a ban on importing products from the occupied Palestinian territories and the prevention of settlers, politicians, and soldiers responsible for war crimes in Palestine from entering the European Union.
As the conflict enters its second month, UN officials and G7 countries have intensified their calls for a humanitarian ceasefire of Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip to help alleviate the suffering of civilians, with essential supplies running low.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported on Wednesday that 10,500 Palestinians, 40% of whom are children, have been killed since the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip began on October 7th.
