On Tuesday, the preparatory meeting of Arab foreign ministers for the 33rd Arab Summit kicked off in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. The summit is scheduled to take place this Thursday.
This crucial meeting aims to finalize the agenda for the summit based on the outcomes of Monday’s session involving permanent representatives and senior officials.
During this session, the ministers are expected to discuss and approve the draft resolutions for items listed on the agenda and the final declaration to be issued by the Arab leaders.
Key issues on the draft agenda include the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict, the activation of the Arab Peace Initiative, Israeli violations in Jerusalem, support for the Palestinian state’s budget and the resilience of its people, the situation of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), settlement expansion, the apartheid wall, and Palestinian detainees.
Additionally, the meeting will cover eight principal items related to various aspects of joint Arab action, including political, economic, social, cultural, media, security issues, and Arab cooperation with international and regional groups.
These include a report from the presidency of the 32nd Summit on the implementation of decisions and commitments, and a report from the Secretary-General of the Arab League on the progress of joint Arab efforts.
The ministers will also deliberate on issues related to Arab national security, encompassing topics such as solidarity with Lebanon, developments in Syria, peace and development in Sudan, the situations in Libya and Yemen, support for Somalia and Comoros, and peaceful resolution of the Djibouti-Eritrea border conflict.
This meeting in Bahrain represents a significant preparatory step for the Arab leaders who are looking to address and strategize on critical regional issues and enhance cooperation across diverse spheres.
