Australia has unveiled its largest military assistance package to Ukraine, valued at nearly 250 million Australian dollars ($169.2 million), according to the Australian Defense Ministry.
The package includes air defense missiles, ammunition, and anti-tank weapons.
“The Albanese Government continues its unwavering support for Ukraine with the announcement of Australia’s largest single military assistance package, worth nearly $250 million,” the ministry stated.
The aid comprises air defense missiles, air-to-ground guided weapons, anti-tank weapons, artillery, mortars, cannons, small arms ammunition, and a shipment of boots.
“Today’s announcement by the Albanese Government increases Australia’s military assistance to Ukraine to over $1.1 billion since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, with total aid surpassing $1.3 billion,” the statement continued.
Since Russia’s military operation in Ukraine began in February 2022, Western nations have significantly increased their military and financial support for Kyiv.
The Australian Defense Ministry reported that Australia has provided more than $1 billion to Ukraine, including $880 million in military aid, since the conflict started.
During a summit in Washington, NATO leaders committed to providing Ukraine with at least 40 billion euros in military aid over the next year to support its defense against Russia.
In a declaration issued at the summit, it was stated that the allies plan to secure a minimum of 40 billion euros in essential funding over the next year through proportional contributions.
This funding aims to provide sustainable levels of security assistance to ensure Ukraine’s victory.
This substantial aid package underscores NATO’s continued support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia, which began with Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and escalated with the invasion in 2022.
As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, the international community closely watches the impact of these military aids on the conflict dynamics and Ukraine’s capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
