Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, the President of the Arab Parliament, urged the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network to follow the lead of other international parliamentary organizations and establish a special committee for Palestine.

This committee would coordinate joint parliamentary efforts and support the Palestinian people in the face of terrorist practices and genocide perpetrated by the ruthless occupying entity, amidst a shameful international silence that tarnishes humanity’s reputation.

These remarks were made during Al-Asoumi’s speech at the third conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, held within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meetings in Geneva from March 23 to 27.

The main topic of discussion in this session was enhancing parliamentary action in combating climate change.

Al-Asoumi emphasized that when discussing the crimes of the occupation in Gaza from the perspective of the conference’s theme, climate change, it becomes evident that the occupying entity is also engaged in environmental destruction in Gaza in every sense of the word.

Furthermore, in his address, Al-Asoumi highlighted that the issue of climate change, the main focus of the conference, holds a prominent place on the agenda and priorities of the Arab Parliament.

The parliament is keen on enhancing parliamentary action in addressing the issue of climate change through various means, including urging national parliaments to enact legislation supportive of sustainable development policies and green economy initiatives.

The President of the Arab Parliament stressed the importance of adhering to the principle of international climate justice in implementing the commitments outlined in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

He clarified that while the most advanced countries are responsible for the largest share of harmful emissions causing global temperature rise, developing countries with limited resources are the most affected by and bear the brunt of climate change consequences.

This necessitates fairness in burden-sharing and undertaking relevant commitments.

He also reiterated the importance of developed countries fulfilling their commitments and pledges in accordance with the Paris Agreement by providing one hundred billion dollars annually to finance climate change efforts in developing countries.
