Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, highlighted the significance of enhancing the framework for joint Arab health efforts and providing opportunities for constructive dialogue between migrated health experts and governmental institutions.
This initiative aims to activate the role of these experts in supporting and reforming health sectors across Arab countries.
These remarks were made by Ambassador Abu Ghazaleh during the first Arab Conference on “The Role of Arab Migrated Health Talents in Supporting Health Systems in Arab Countries,” which commenced on Saturday under the patronage of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan.
This pioneering event in the Arab world is held in Amman and continues for two days, focusing on the contributions of Arab health diaspora to the health systems.
The conference, organized in collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Health, the Arab League (Social Affairs Sector – Health and Humanitarian Aid Administration), the Arab Council for Health Specialties, the United Nations Population Fund, the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, the Arab Administrative Development Organization, and the Association of Arab Universities, witnesses significant participation from Arab health ministers, representatives of member states, and a distinguished elite of talents holding high positions abroad, Arab specialized organizations, and the Arab diplomatic corps in Jordan, along with various representatives from the public and private health sectors and universities.
Ambassador Abu Ghazaleh noted that the conference would discuss the realities and challenges of health worker migration in the Arab region, government initiatives to leverage the expertise of migrated health talents, and ways to mobilize these capabilities to support training, capacity building, service development, and scientific research within Arab health sectors.
Moreover, Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, Jordan’s Minister of Health, received the Arab League’s shield on behalf of King Abdullah II, acknowledging the King’s generous patronage of the conference.
