Arab League Condemns Israel’s War on Gazan Civilians

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, has condemned what he describes as a “brutal and diabolical war waged by the Israeli occupation on civilians in Gaza,” asserting that the conflict is part of a clear, sinister plan with specific aims and objectives.

Speaking at the 31st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held at the Arab League headquarters, Aboul Gheit stated that the Israeli occupation is not merely targeting a movement as it claims, but is instead aimed at annihilating an entire society, tearing apart its fabric, and destroying the viability of life in the Gaza Strip for a long time to come.

He emphasized that these objectives of the Israeli operation are no longer hidden from anyone.

Aboul Gheit continued, “This diabolical plan has only one goal: the elimination of the Palestinian cause by severing the people from their land, either by destroying the possibility of life on this land or by forcibly displacing and expelling them with the use of arms, which will never happen.”

He remarked that Israeli military leaders are unabashed in expressing these goals, stating unequivocally that there will be no Palestinian state in the future.

They repeatedly renounce the Oslo Accords and the establishment of the Palestinian Authority, brazenly declaring that Palestinians will not have sovereignty over their land.

Aboul Gheit stressed, “This is an occupation that does not hide its face or beautify its goals, but announces them with unprecedented insolence and arrogance.

It is also a contempt for the peoples and nations that have clearly expressed their position in a recent vote at the United Nations General Assembly, where the majority of states sided with the right side of history, demanding an immediate ceasefire and an end to the bloody massacre and collective punishment that no longer have a place in our world.”

He further added, “Every new day of this war distances us from the two-state solution, which was accepted by the Palestinians, Arabs, and the entire world, except Israel, which mistakenly believes it can inflict a second catastrophe on the Palestinians. But even if it kills thousands of innocent civilians without any fault or crime, it will not kill their dream, nor will it force them to relinquish their right to land and life.”

Aboul Gheit reiterated his urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, saying, “We repeat our urgent call for a ceasefire to preserve the security and stability of the region, especially as we observe with concern the irresponsible actions that have become a source of threats in the Red Sea, negatively impacting the economic conditions of the Arab region.”
