Amid the mounting challenges faced by the Arab world, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, has underscored the urgency of international intervention in the escalating crisis in Palestine. The statement was made during the recent Arab League Council meeting held at its headquarters.

The 160th regular session of the Arab League Council convened with a focus on the most pressing issues. Chaired by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, succeeding the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry from the 159th session, the council highlighted topics spanning from political to economic, social, and security matters.

Present at the meeting was the Japanese Foreign Minister, signifying the 3rd Ministerial Meeting for Arab-Japanese Political Dialogue. The discussions touched upon various pivotal issues including the Palestinian cause, Arab affairs, national security, international politics, human rights, counter-terrorism initiatives, and more.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed his concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, characterizing it as a terrifying resurgence of global clashes involving major powers. Such disputes can have devastating repercussions, not just in terms of security but economically and politically as well. He emphasized that current global conditions necessitate enhanced collaborative efforts among nations to safeguard their strategic independence and address issues of national interest.

Reaffirming the Arab League’s proactive approach, Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of fortifying its international alliances, viewing them as strategic assets. Notably, he referenced the inaugural Arab-Chinese summit held in Saudi Arabia last December. Additionally, he spotlighted the recently held Arab-Japanese dialogue and eagerly anticipates the upcoming Arab-African summit in Saudi Arabia this November. These partnerships exemplify a requisite momentum to position the Arab region in alignment with diverse international blocs and forces.

Amidst geopolitical uncertainties and global conflicts, the Arab League’s endeavours to bolster its international partnerships reflect its commitment to fostering peace, stability, and progress for its member states and the wider Arab community. The emphasis on the Palestinian situation underscores the region’s unified stance on this critical issue, calling for international awareness and action.
