Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, recently emphasized the strong cooperative ties between Arab nations and Japan.

In a press conference concluding the Arab-Japan Ministerial Meeting, which saw the participation of the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Japan, Aboul Gheit underscored the Arab League’s keenness to elevate various aspects of Arab-Japanese collaboration.

Aboul Gheit pointed out that Japan is a significant global power with noteworthy contributions and influence. “The Arab League and Arab nations are eager to leverage Tokyo’s robust role across all fronts,” he remarked.

The foundation for Arab-Japanese cooperation was laid 14 years ago with the establishment of the Arab-Japan Economic Forum in 2009. Since its inception, the forum has convened five times, with the last meeting held in 2019.

Notably, by 2022, the trade exchange between the Arab nations and Japan reached an impressive $114 billion.

On Tuesday, Sameh Shoukry, the Foreign Minister of Egypt expressed keen interest in bolstering relations in various sectors. SHoukry is also the current President of the 159th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level. This comes on the heels of the successful conclusion of the third session of the Arab-Japanese political dialogue. Japanese Foreign Minister, Yoshimasa Hayashi attended the session.
