Sonatrach, the leading energy company in Algeria, has announced its membership in the Global Gas Center (GGC), a non-profit organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. The GGC aims to enhance international exchange in the natural gas sector and improve performance and outcomes in the industry through a neutral, independent, and comprehensive platform that brings together experts and leaders from natural gas companies worldwide.

The Global Gas Center operates in the field of natural gas with representatives from all continents and is dedicated to promoting sustainable energy and addressing issues related to the natural gas sector. Sonatrach’s membership in this organization is expected to strengthen its role as a key player in Africa’s gas industry and a pioneer in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) field.

This affiliation offers valuable opportunities for Sonatrach to benefit from the exchange of insights and expertise within this influential global body, which comprises major actors and experts in the gas industry.

Established in 2014 by a group of natural gas producers and the World Energy Council, the Global Gas Center currently has 15 members, with Sonatrach’s active participation being a recent addition. Sonatrach’s involvement in this center will enhance its position in the international gas market and provide exceptional prospects for leveraging the exchange of opinions and experiences within this influential global body.

In a related development, Sonatrach’s subsidiary, Staub Polymer, recently signed a contract with the British company Petrofac HCU to establish a petrochemical complex in Arzew, Algeria. Sonatrach’s statement revealed that the agreement focuses on financing the construction of a petrochemical complex within the industrial zone of Arzew, covering an area of 88 hectares. The complex aims to produce 550,000 tons of polypropylene annually.

The project is expected to be completed within 42 months, creating approximately 6,000 job opportunities during the construction phase and 450 positions after its operationalization.

Sonatrach’s recent initiatives demonstrate its commitment to expanding its global presence, fostering collaboration, and capitalizing on valuable opportunities for growth and development in the energy sector.

By joining the Global Gas Center and investing in petrochemical infrastructure, Sonatrach is positioning itself as a key player in the international gas and petrochemical markets, driving economic progress and job creation in Algeria.
