The Algerian Civil Defense has reported that since last Tuesday, their search and excavation operations in the Libyan city of Derna have resulted in the discovery of 92 deceased victims. In a released statement, the Defense clarified that 54 victims were recovered just yesterday.
The search and excavation efforts continue in collaboration with the search and rescue team, the medical unit, and trained search dogs.
Previously on Tuesday, Algeria had announced the dispatch of significant and urgent humanitarian aid to Libya, following the cyclone that hit several of its cities. This aid included food, medical supplies, clothing, and tents delivered through an air bridge comprised of eight aircraft.
Derna, a city located in northeastern Libya, has historically been a focal point of various geopolitical events. The recent cyclone, which caused widespread damage in several Libyan cities, prompted neighboring countries, including Algeria, to send urgent humanitarian aid.
Natural disasters in the region often see a collective response, reflecting the interconnectedness and mutual support of North African nations. Algeria, being one of the major countries in the region, has consistently played a supportive role in regional crises, offering help and resources when needed.
