Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has emphatically stated that the ongoing conflict in Palestine represents not only a demise of international law but also an undermining of the world order based on shared principles. His remarks underscored the severe human rights violations occurring amid the Palestinian crisis.
Speaking through Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui at the 15th Islamic Cooperation Organization summit in Banjul, Gambia, President Tebboune lamented the international community’s failure to enforce resolutions, including those outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“The global institutions boast of their commitment to peace and dialogue among civilizations, yet their inaction contradicts this professed dedication,” Tebboune expressed.
The President highlighted that the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, have been subjected to what he described as a genocidal war by the Israeli occupation, witnessed by the world for over six months without stirring the global or human conscience.
“The blatant disregard for human suffering, evident in the blocking of humanitarian aid and deliberate starvation policies, marks a grave assault on the legitimacy of international law and human rights,” he added.
Tebboune called attention to the profound suffering of Palestinians, not just from the ongoing bombardment and killings but also from the enforced deprivation of essential supplies.
He emphasized the urgent need for international collaboration to support the Palestinian struggle for liberation and their rightful claim to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Algerian leader’s speech at the summit highlighted a critical view of the international community’s response to the Palestinian issue, suggesting that in Palestine, humanity has lost all semblance of civility, law, principles, and values.
President Tebboune urged global actors to take concrete steps to address these injustices and uphold human dignity and legal standards.
