Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has finalized his highly-anticipated transfer from Manchester City to Al-Ahli, according to an announcement made by Saudi state-run TV channel Al Ekhbariya, cited by Ben Jacobs.
Al-Ahli and Man City have come to terms on a deal, which, with added bonuses, amounts to €35 million for the transfer of Mahrez.
After a fruitful five-year tenure with the Premier League heavyweights, Mahrez will exit the club. His time there saw him clinch four league titles, two FA Cups, and a Champions League trophy.
Despite the Algerian star’s diminished role in the triumphant season last year, when Pep Guardiola chose not to field him in the Champions League knockout stages and the FA Cup final, Mahrez made a significant contribution to City’s title defense with his notable Premier League stats: five goals and ten assists.
Aged 32, Mahrez’s integral role in City’s dominance under Guardiola’s management ensures his legacy as one of the club’s most influential figures.
His achievements, including winning the Premier League title five times, once with Leicester City, cement his standing among the all-time greats of the Premier League.
Mahrez’s move to Al-Ahli follows similar transitions made by Premier League players Robert Firmino and Edouard Mendy.
With the future of Bernardo Silva at the Etihad Stadium uncertain, City may find themselves in the market for a right-winger during the transfer window.
Raphinha from Barcelona has been touted as a possible acquisition for the Cityzens, but the Catalan team regards him as non-negotiable.
