On Tuesday, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ammar Benjamam, addressed the Security Council regarding the situation in Sudan and South Sudan.
He emphasized that many areas in Sudan are at risk of famine if the conflicts persist and humanitarian aid continues to be restricted.
Benjamam highlighted the findings of the latest Famine Review Committee report, which shed light on the dire conditions in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
He noted that over 25 million people in Sudan suffer from severe food insecurity and live in catastrophic conditions.
The Algerian envoy stressed the urgent need for all parties to assume their responsibilities to ensure that essential humanitarian aid can reach those in need across borders and conflict lines.
