These headlines capture the essence of Algeria’s call for international action to protect Palestinian children in Gaza and emphasize the need for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian assistance.

Algeria Calls on International Community for Child Protection in Palestine and Immediate Ceasefire

Algeria has urged the international community to shoulder its responsibility and provide protection for Palestinian children, particularly in Gaza, from the violence, repression, and terrorism perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces.

The call emphasizes the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid without conditions or obstacles.

These remarks were delivered by Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amar Benjamia, during a session of the UN Security Council titled “Advancing our Collective Standards in Protecting Children and Ending all Grave Violations.

Benjamia underscored the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid without conditions or obstacles, noting that over 15,000 children have been killed during the ongoing aggression by the Israeli military on Gaza.

Additionally, more than 19,000 children have been orphaned, nearly 4,000 children remain under the rubble, not to mention those who have lost limbs or are currently detained by occupation forces.

Highlighting the severe restrictions imposed on humanitarian aid by the Israeli forces, Benjamia pointed out that Gaza’s residents face catastrophic levels of hunger, with 50,000 children urgently needing treatment for malnutrition.

According to the latest United Nations report on food insecurity, 96% of Gaza’s population, roughly 2 million people, face acute food insecurity, with nearly half a million living in dire conditions.

The Algerian representative warned of the looming threat of famine across Gaza as long as the conflict persists and humanitarian aid access remains limited, noting that one million people in southern Gaza are now trapped without access to safe drinking water or emergency medical services in an extremely densely populated area.

Algeria’s plea at the UN Security Council echoes widespread international calls for immediate action to protect children in Palestine and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, underscoring the urgent need for a lasting ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian aid delivery to alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians, especially children.
