On Sunday, Algerian Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Faisal Ben Taleb, welcomed the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, at the ministry’s headquarters.

According to a ministry statement, the meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss ways to enhance cooperation with the specialized UN agency, as well as to highlight Algeria’s significant efforts in promoting decent work, social dialogue, and social protection.

Minister Ben Taleb showcased Algeria’s experience in bolstering social dialogue, focusing on the gains achieved for workers in the areas of social security and decent work, and the developments in employment mechanisms and the social security system in the country.

Following the meeting, which was attended by a significant delegation from the ILO, representatives from the ILO office in Algeria, and officials from the ministry, ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo praised Algeria’s pioneering experience in social security and social dialogue.

He commended the strong relationship between the organization and Algeria in the fields of labor and social security, affirming the organization’s readiness to fully support and enhance this cooperation.

It is worth noting that Algeria has hosted the ILO office for the Maghreb countries since 1967 and has established multiple cooperation programs with the ILO office.

Algeria is considered a leader in promoting social dialogue and protection, embodying the principles of a social state based on values of social justice, as stated in the ministry’s release.
