Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf announced Wednesday in New York that Algeria, under the decision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has decided to provide exceptional financial assistance to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), amounting to $15 million.
Attaf stated during a Security Council meeting that this financial contribution adds to what Algeria has previously initiated by providing direct support to the Palestinian Authority, which we consider a true duty and a responsibility incumbent upon us and other members of the international community.
The minister added that UNRWA has become a target of blatant attacks and malicious targeting by the Israeli settlement occupation, which has not hesitated to bombard more than 160 of its facilities and violate its staff and affiliates.
“It is certain that the international community fully understands the intentions of the occupying authority and the purpose of such policies that undermine the international consensus enjoyed by the mandate entrusted to UNRWA,” he continued.
The same speaker concluded by saying that the international community is obliged to respond with a bold and courageous stance to protect UNRWA and facilitate the continuity of its vital activities for the benefit of millions of Palestinian refugees in exile and displacement.
