Algeria’s Housing Minister Tarik Ballaribi has revealed significant updates regarding the preparations for implementing the 2024-2029 Five-Year Housing Program, recently approved by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The ambitious initiative aims to construct 2 million housing units across the country.
According to the newspaper “An-Nahar,” Minister Ballaribi emphasized the urgency of initiating preparations for the program, stating that construction work should commence immediately following the approval of the 2025 Finance Law.
In this context, Ballaribi directed the General Directorate of Housing to collaborate with the General Directorate of Urban Planning, Architecture, and Construction to develop a detailed program for launching the projects planned for 2025.
Additionally, a distribution plan for the housing units will be established, particularly in historically significant locations such as July 5 and November 1.
Minister Ballaribi also stressed the need to shorten the construction timelines for housing projects scheduled for 2023-2024 and highlighted the importance of timely payments to contractors to avoid delays.
This initiative aims to maintain the necessary pace of work to ensure that the housing units are delivered according to the established timeline for the 2025-2029 period, as reported by the newspaper.
In a related development, the minister instructed officials to continue the rehabilitation and painting of buildings in various neighborhoods, a move well-received by residents and part of Algeria’s urban environment improvement program.
Last month, Tebboune secured a second term in office, winning the presidential election by a substantial margin, as announced by the country’s National Independent Authority for Elections on Sunday.
President Tebboune clinched the victory with a staggering 94.65% of the total votes cast.
His closest competitors, Youssef Ouchiche, the first secretary of the Socialist Forces Front, and Abdelali Hassani Cherif, the leader of the Peace Society Movement, trailed significantly behind.
