Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, emphasized the harmonized vision shared by Algeria and Nigeria on the necessity of coordinating efforts to fortify both regional and international initiatives towards a political and peaceful resolution for the turmoil in Niger.

Attaf conveyed that Algerian President, Abdelmajid Tebboune, firmly believes that there remains room for a negotiated political solution to the situation in Niger. Emphasizing the President’s unwavering stance, Attaf noted Tebboune’s commitment to ensuring full respect for the legal and African framework, which unequivocally denounces unconstitutional governmental shifts.

Moreover, President Tebboune ardently advocates for Niger’s return to its constitutional governance while preserving the nation’s achieved progress.

Kicking off his diplomatic mission, Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Attaf, representing both Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, commenced his tour in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, last Wednesday. The tour has been entrusted to him by the Algerian leadership.

While in Abuja, Minister Attaf entered into detailed discussions with his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Maitama, as reported in an official ministry announcement.

This diplomatic tour, initiated on Wednesday by Minister Attaf, will encompass visits to nations such as the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Republic of Benin, and the Republic of Ghana. As highlighted by an official from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, these tours have been mandated by Algerian President, Abdelmajid Tebboune.

Throughout these state visits, Minister Attaf is slated to engage in dialogues with his fellow ministers from countries affiliated with the West African Economic Group. The core of these dialogues will pivot on the situation in Niger, exploring avenues for its resolution. The objective is to frame a political strategy that wards off any potential escalation adversely impacting the region.
