Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune revealed that he held extensive talks with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, marking a significant step in advancing bilateral relations between Algeria and India.
This diplomatic engagement, highlighted during a joint press conference on Monday, focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, as well as addressing key regional and international issues.
This visit is notable as it is the first time Algeria has hosted the President of India, signaling a deepening of ties between the two nations.
Both leaders discussed ways to boost collaboration in trade and investment, aiming to foster stronger economic links.
Tebboune emphasized the importance of expanding trade exchanges and investment opportunities between Algeria and India, which would benefit both countries’ economies.
One of the main outcomes of the discussions was the agreement to prepare for the upcoming session of the Joint Committee for Cooperation and Political Consultation, which will serve as a platform to further enhance bilateral ties.
Additionally, a business leaders’ meeting is planned, aimed at encouraging more private sector involvement and fostering stronger economic partnerships.
In addition to economic cooperation, the talks also covered critical geopolitical issues, particularly focusing on the situation in the Middle East.
Both leaders expressed concern over the escalating violence in Gaza and southern Lebanon, underscoring the broader regional and global consequences of these conflicts.
Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s firm stance on supporting the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state. Furthermore, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to respecting the United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning the Western Sahara issue.
