Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the candidate for the upcoming Algerian presidential elections scheduled for September 7, emphasized that Algeria is committed to achieving stability in the region and will continue to engage with its international partners, regardless of the circumstances. He reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering support for oppressed peoples and the Palestinian cause, and promised continued support for Lebanon.
Tebboune made these remarks during a speech in Constantine, northeastern Algeria, as part of the fourth day of his presidential campaign.
He also emphasized that the sanctity of Algerian territory is preserved thanks to the strength of the army and urged Algerians to participate actively and turn out in large numbers at polling stations on September 7.
In another key point, Tebboune pledged to enhance the purchasing power of citizens through various measures, including price controls, combating speculation and inflation, and continuing to raise workers’ wages.
He also promised to make the upcoming presidential term a “period of economic excellence,” by implementing several measures, including reducing the import of certain consumer goods such as durum wheat, barley, and corn, exploiting the Gara Djebilet iron mine, and increasing the country’s foreign currency revenues.
Tebboune highlighted that Algeria’s economic growth rate has reached 4.2%, as recognized by international institutions and organizations. He attributed this achievement to awareness, integrity, and the preservation of public funds, noting that Algeria has recently recovered several of its stolen assets, including 51 factories and a five-star hotel in Spain, and has eliminated external debt.
