President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria has emphasized the need to end all forms of foreign military presence in Libya, particularly concerning the withdrawal of mercenaries, regardless of how they are named.
President Tebboune stated that the use of force in Libya would only lead to the continuation and exacerbation of the crisis, endangering the future of the Libyan people.
Libya has become a haven for armed militias, terrorist groups, and criminal networks engaged in arms and drug trafficking, as well as facilitating illegal migration.
During his address, delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Nizar Baraka at the tenth session of the meeting of African Union high-level committee on Libya, President Tebboune renewed the call for all parties concerned with the Libyan issue to rally around this constructive path and commit to respecting Libya’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.
He emphasized that any final solution to the Libyan crisis can only be achieved through a process that upholds the principle of national sovereignty, where the Libyans take charge of their own affairs.
It should also safeguard their genuine rights in the wealth of their country, manage it, and exploit it to ensure their prosperity, development, and stability, according to the president.
President Tebboune pointed out that the Libyan crisis still looms with its various repercussions and complexities, resulting from foreign interventions and the policy of polarization between national and foreign forces.
This crisis is further compounded by environmental disasters that have exacerbated the suffering of our Libyan brothers, who have been burdened by ongoing political divisions and the delay in finding a peaceful settlement to the crisis.
The Algerian president also called on the Libyan people to determine their future and overcome the current deadlock by rebuilding the legitimacy of Libyan institutions and unifying them.
