The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a cautionary statement regarding the potential spiral of violence in the region resulting from the Niger crisis.

The ministry expressed regret over the prioritization of military action in dealing with the Niger situation, emphasizing that there are still untapped opportunities for a political resolution.

Furthermore, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly expressed its dismay at the inclination towards resorting to violence instead of pursuing a path of political and negotiated solutions that would facilitate the restoration of constitutional order in Niger.

The ministry also affirmed its belief that a negotiated political solution remains feasible, underscoring that all avenues for a peaceful resolution have not yet been explored, and every opportunity for such a resolution remains untapped.

Pointing to the region’s history, the ministry unequivocally noted that military interventions have historically exacerbated problems instead of resolving them.

Hence, it called upon all parties involved to uphold the values of restraint, wisdom, and rationality, all of which necessitate giving the utmost priority to a political and negotiated resolution for the ongoing constitutional crisis.

The Algerian government’s statement comes in the midst of rising concerns about the situation in Niger and its potential to escalate into further violence.
