Gazprom Reduces Gas Supply to Europe via Ukraine

Russian company Gazprom announced its plans to dispatch 41.4 million cubic meters of gas to Europe through Ukraine this Saturday. This represents a minor decline, with a reduction of one million cubic meters from the 42.4 million sent the previous day, as reported by Reuters.

Last year, the West imposed a series of sanctions on Russia and its state-affiliated companies due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Although direct sanctions on Gazprom’s natural gas exports – a major revenue source for the company – weren’t enforced, the export volumes nearly halved last year, totaling around 101 billion cubic meters.

Moscow is trying to redirect a portion of its exports to allied nations in Central Asia, especially Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. These countries, despite their rich gas and oil resources, face energy crises.
