Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed that Egypt’s vision regarding the Sudanese crisis encompasses working diligently for the benefit of the Sudanese people and preserving the institutions of the Sudanese state. He pointed out that Egypt is striving to mitigate the damages suffered by the Sudanese people due to recent events and is handling challenges posed by neighboring countries.
In an exclusive interview with “Cairo News Channel”, Shoukry emphasized the importance of safeguarding Sudanese institutions, reflecting the stance conveyed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Cairo Summit.
He noted that a working dinner was held where ideas proposed by the host country (Chad) were discussed, in coordination with other nations, on the sidelines of the inaugural meeting of the ministerial mechanism emerging from the summit of Sudan’s neighboring countries currently taking place in Chad.
The Foreign Minister stated there is keen interest in holding an in-depth discussion in a closed session among the ministers to implement the directives issued by the leaders of Sudan’s neighboring countries. He further mentioned that a consultative round is underway among specialists to crystallize the outcomes of today’s meeting within the framework of the Cairo Summit’s decisions.
Shoukry added that the most crucial aspect is focusing on this effective mechanism for countries impacted by the conflict in Sudan due to historical ties and proximity. At the same time, he indicated that communications are ongoing with the parties in Sudan, but have not yet yielded results concerning halting military actions.
Shoukry reiterated that the neighboring countries’ mechanism can engage with Sudanese parties both militarily and civilly, hinting simultaneously that this mechanism has the capacity to unite all elements in Sudan.
