The United States and Ukraine have commenced negotiations regarding the provision of security guarantees to Kyiv, as stated by a White House spokesperson.

Responding to a written request, the source affirmed, “Yes, we can confirm that.”

Earlier, Ukrainian authorities had disclosed information about the initiation of such negotiations.

Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department, also confirmed during a press conference that talks were expected to begin virtually this week.

The US delegation will be led by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Asian Affairs.

The diplomat also emphasized that these efforts in no way substitute the military assistance provided by countries to Kyiv.

Despite the ongoing discussions, the West has been cautioned by Moscow multiple times that supplying arms to Ukraine would not change the situation but would only prolong the conflict.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the United States and NATO of direct involvement in the confrontation through personnel training, not just arms supply.
