Tunisia Facing Increasing Poverty

Tunisia’s Minister of Social Affairs Malik Al-Zahi revealed that the number of Tunisians living below the poverty line has surpassed four million.

During a parliamentary session, Al-Zahi emphasized that the ministry has formulated plans and programs to combat poverty, stressing that it requires the collective efforts of all state institutions.

With a population of 12 million, Tunisia finds itself in a financial crisis, teetering on the edge of a major debt crisis, and grappling with shortages of essential goods.

Alarming statistics show that the number of illiterate individuals in Tunisia has reached nearly two million, with one million people becoming illiterate over the past decade alone.

Unemployment rates have exceeded 20%, with a staggering 70% of the unemployed holding university degrees, reflecting a concerning disparity between education and job opportunities.
