On Tuesday, a fresh terrorist attack by Al-Qaeda in Abyan Province, Southern Yemen, resulted in the death of five soldiers and injuries to four others. This disturbing incident contributes to the escalating pattern of violence by Al-Qaeda in the region.

Spokesperson for the Southern Forces, Colonel Mohammed Al-Naqib, stated that the forces involved in the Eastern Spears operation had thwarted an armed assault launched by the terrorist organization on their positions in “Wadi Awmaran”, located in the Mudiyah district east of the province, overlooking the Arabian Sea.

The military official confirmed that the terrorist elements infiltrated from areas outside the Eastern Spears operation’s theater, specifically from the Houthi-controlled Al-Bayda Province. The attackers reportedly utilized mortar artillery and machine-gun fire in the armed assault.

The spokesperson reported that the clash with the terrorist elements resulted in five fatalities and four injured soldiers from the Southern Forces. He also highlighted that the Southern Forces continue to pursue the terrorist elements who fled into the mountains bordering Shabwa and Al-Bayda provinces.

Last month, Al-Qaeda carried out a series of terrorist operations in the Shabwa and Abyan provinces, causing numerous casualties and injuries among the Southern Forces and Abyan Axis and Shabwa Defense.

According to statistics from “Al-Ain News”, the first half of the current year witnessed more than 38 terrorist operations by Al-Qaeda, resulting in approximately 100 fatalities and injuries, including high-ranking officers and prominent field commanders of the Southern Forces.

Despite the fierce war on terrorism led by the Southern Forces with support from the Arab Coalition, as part of the Eastern Spears and South operations in Shabwa and Abyan, Al-Qaeda has escalated its terrorist attacks in Southern Yemen.
