Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that Turkey is actively working towards ensuring the return of approximately one million refugees to Syria.

This move comes as part of Turkey’s efforts to address the ongoing refugee crisis in the region.

Erdogan stated that the return of refugees to their homeland will continue as security and stability levels improve in Syria.

So far, over 600,000 displaced individuals have already returned to the country, and we plan to facilitate the return of one million refugees to their homes, according to the Turkish president.

In an earlier announcement, Erdogan revealed that Turkey and Qatar are jointly implementing a project to construct around one million housing units in northern Syria for the returning refugees.

Turkey, being a neighboring country to Syria, has been significantly affected by the prolonged Syrian civil war and the subsequent humanitarian fallout.

According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, there are currently approximately 4.9 million refugees residing in Turkey, with three million of them being Syrians.

However, the process of repatriation has been a contentious issue, with Syrian refugees in Turkey complaining about what they perceive as forced return attempts by Turkish authorities, despite being portrayed as voluntary repatriation.
