Firefighters have successfully extinguished a fire that broke out in one of the bitumen production unit’s lines at Kuwait’s Mina al-Ahmadi oil refinery.

Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) reported the incident, but there was no mention of any impact on production or operations at the refinery.

The incident occurred, and the prompt response by firefighters prevented further escalation and potential disruptions at the facility.

Mina Al Ahmadi, located 40km south of Kuwait City, serves as the largest refinery in the country, boasting an impressive capacity to process 466,000 barrels of oil per day.

In recent years, KNPC undertook modernization efforts to enable the production of products with reduced sulphur content. The complex is equipped with four gas trains, drawing fuel for processing from fields owned by the Kuwait Oil Company.

However, the refinery has experienced a history of incidents, some of which have resulted in tragic consequences.

In January of the previous year, two individuals lost their lives, and ten others suffered injuries when a fire erupted during maintenance work on a gas liquefaction plant within the facility.

Subsequently, in October 2021, another fire broke out at the refinery, causing multiple injuries before being brought under control.
