A tragic incident occurred in the southern part of Damascus as six people were killed, and over twenty others were left injured in a bomb explosion near Sayyidah Zaynab town.
The Syrian Ministry of Health confirmed the casualties, and the Interior Ministry attributed the attack to a “terrorist explosion” caused by a motorcycle bomb near a public taxi.
In a statement released on “Telegram,” the health ministry reported that the “explosive device blast” resulted in injuries to 26 other individuals.
According to eyewitness Ibrahim (39), a local employee, the area was rocked by a massive explosion, prompting people to run for safety. Ambulances swiftly arrived at the scene, while security forces cordoned off the area.
The explosion occurred in close proximity to a security facility, about 600 meters away from the revered Sayyidah Zaynab shrine. In recent days, security forces had tightened measures in the area, coinciding with the commemoration of Ashura, where public mourning gatherings were taking place.
Sayyidah Zaynab in southern Damascus has been the target of deadly attacks and bombings by armed groups during the ongoing conflict since 2011. Known for its religious significance, the area attracts visitors mainly from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and other countries.
