The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court revealed today, Saturday, that the current war crimes in Sudan are being committed throughout the country, promising to publish the names of those involved in Sudan’s war crimes in due course.
Karim Khan told Al Arabiya/Al Hadath that the Sudanese government has not been serious about investigating the Darfur crimes, pointing out that Khartoum has never cooperated with them, even before the war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
He also said, “Darfur is now exposed to even more atrocious crimes than what it has previously witnessed,” adding that the Criminal Court is looking into allegations of recent war crimes committed in Sudan. He continued, “Dozens of bodies are scattered in the streets of Darfur due to the current infighting.”
Regarding the Libyan file, he said, “We need genuine partnerships to succeed in our mission in Libya.”
He also spoke about the issuance of an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that there is no error in issuing an arrest warrant against the Kremlin leader. He said, “Independent judges are the ones who issued Putin’s arrest warrant.”
It is noteworthy that the International Criminal Court had issued an arrest warrant against Putin and the Russian Children’s Rights Commissioner, Maria Lfova Belova, in March due to the war crime of illegal deportation of children. Russia – like the United States, Ukraine, and China – is not a member of the International Criminal Court.
Since the court does not conduct trials in absentia, either Moscow will have to extradite Putin or he will have to be arrested outside Russia. The court includes 123 countries, and the International Criminal Court Law stipulates that all state parties are legally obliged to cooperate with the court, which means they are obliged to implement arrest orders.
