Embraer, the Brazilian plane maker, has announced plans to construct a new factory near Sao Paulo that will focus on producing electric flying taxis. The subsidiary, Eve, aims to have these innovative aircraft taking to the skies by 2026.

Resembling small helicopters, the electric flying taxis will accommodate up to six passengers and are projected to offer trips at a cost of $50-$100 per person. Eve has already received orders for nearly 3,000 air taxis and is set to create a prototype later this year.

The unique vertical take-off and landing aircraft will not require a traditional runway but will be capable of traveling long distances similar to airplanes. Their electric motors promise reduced noise and pollution compared to standard planes.

The introduction of these air taxis could potentially alleviate traffic congestion in busy urban areas while remaining economically accessible to customers. Additionally, they are seen as a viable alternative for cargo transportation.

The factory will be established in Taubate, approximately 140km from Sao Paulo, the economic hub of Brazil.

Initially deployed in taxi fleets with piloted flights, the company plans to progress to self-piloted vehicles in the future. The 100% electric vehicles will enable emission-free flights, aligning with sustainability goals.
