Algeria inked an agreement on Tuesday to house the headquarters of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and equivalent bodies.
The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad released a statement stating that under this agreement, Algeria’s capital will serve as the home base for this organization.
The agreement was signed by Abdelghani Ammara, the Director General of Ceremonies at the Ministry, representing the Algerian government, and Sidi Mohamed Boushnaq Khaladi, the president of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils and its similar entities, representing the union.
According to the statement, this agreement is aimed at “strengthening the culture of dialogue among the member states of the union in all its forms and levels and activating its mechanisms. In addition, it will coordinate the efforts between the Arab Economic and Social Councils at Arab and international forums.”
Furthermore, the agreement aims to “encourage Arab countries to establish economic and social councils in order to enhance and deepen participatory democracy and achieve peace and social stability in the Arab world.”
The agreement also grants the union “immunities and privileges that allow it to perform its duties under the best conditions, according to the explanations provided during the signing ceremony,” added the statement.
