Saudi King Salman has recovered after undergoing medical tests for lung inflammation, the royal court announced on Wednesday.

The statement, carried by state media, came three days after the court disclosed that the 88-year-old monarch was being tested for a lung infection based on recommendations from the royal clinics.

Earlier in May, King Salman experienced symptoms related to a lung ailment, including fever and joint pain, leading to a treatment course with antibiotics. The royal court later confirmed his recovery at that time.

Having ascended to the throne in 2015, King Salman remains a key figure, although his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has taken on the role of day-to-day ruler since becoming first in line for succession in 2017.

Crown Prince Mohammed assured the public of the king’s health during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, according to state media. The king last chaired a cabinet session on September 24. His reign has been marked by ambitious reforms led by his son, aimed at transitioning Saudi Arabia towards a post-oil economy.
