On Tuesday evening, Libyan Presidential Council Head Mohamed Al-Mnifi met with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, at the Libyan Permanent Mission in New York.

The meeting focused on the current political and economic situation in Libya and aimed at addressing the challenges facing the country.

During their discussion, Al-Mnifi and Aboul Gheit emphasized the importance of revitalizing the trilateral meetings to advance the political process in Libya.

They also agreed on the necessity of unifying their stances to support the Palestinian cause, highlighting regional solidarity amidst ongoing tensions.

The meeting comes on the heels of Al-Mnifi’s participation in the Future Summit, which concluded on Monday at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

This summit brought together various world leaders to discuss pressing global issues, with a focus on sustainable development, financing, peace and security, digital futures, youth engagement, global governance, human rights, and the climate crisis.

Libya has faced a complex political landscape since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The country has been embroiled in conflict, with various factions vying for power, leading to political fragmentation.

The Presidential Council, established as part of a United Nations-led political agreement, seeks to unify the country and guide it towards stability and democratic governance.

The Arab League has played a crucial role in addressing regional challenges, and its support is vital for Libya as it navigates its post-conflict recovery.

The discussions between Al-Mnifi and Aboul Gheit underscore the collaborative efforts required to address both domestic and regional issues effectively.

As Libya continues to grapple with its political and economic challenges, the engagement of international and regional partners remains essential for fostering peace, stability, and development in the country.
