The German government has denied claims that it has suspended permits for arms exports to Israel, despite reports that arms exports have drastically fallen since March.

A spokesperson for the Economic Ministry confirmed to the dpa news agency that “there is no ban on arms exports to Israel, and there will be no ban.”

The statement follows reports suggesting that Germany has not issued new arms permits since March due to legal challenges.

While export volumes have fallen sharply, from €326 million last year to just €14.5 million by August 2024, the government insists it evaluates arms exports to Israel on a case-by-case basis, taking into account humanitarian law and the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
