UNRWA Employee Killed by Sniper in West Bank

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) announced the death of one of its employees on Friday. Sufyan Jaber Abdul Jawad was shot and killed by a sniper while on the roof of his home during an Israeli military operation in the early hours of Thursday, September 12. Sufyan, an environmental health worker at Al-Far’a refugee camp, was a husband and father of five. This marks the first UNRWA staff death in the West Bank in over ten years. UNRWA highlighted the unprecedented levels of violence in the West Bank, particularly affecting refugee camps in Al-Far’a, Tulkarm, Nur Shams, and Jenin. Civil infrastructure, including water and electricity networks, has been destroyed, making it difficult for local communities to access essential supplies. Due to these risks, UNRWA has suspended services in the area to protect staff and beneficiaries.
