The United Nations called for a “comprehensive investigation and accountability for Israeli soldiers involved” in the killing of Turkish-American activist Eysinor Eji in the occupied West Bank.
The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, emphasized on Friday the importance of investigating the circumstances of the incident and holding those responsible accountable, highlighting the necessity to protect civilians under all circumstances. In response to a question about whether officials responsible for similar past killings, including UN staff, had been held accountable, Dujarric stated that “nothing has been done so far regarding the killing of UN employees.” He also mentioned that “investigations usually begin after the clashes have ceased,” adding that Israel has not conducted investigations into many incidents involving civilian casualties.
In another development, Israeli forces stormed the town of Ya’bad southwest of Jenin in the occupied West Bank. Local sources reported that the occupation forces entered the town with several military vehicles and spread across various neighborhoods.
