On Tuesday, Egypt expressed its strong rejection of statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of trying to distract the Israeli public and undermine ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange. These talks are mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the Israeli government responsible for worsening the crisis, arguing that Netanyahu’s remarks justify aggression and incitement, leading to further regional escalation. The ministry reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to its historic role in leading the Middle East peace process and maintaining security and stability.

The rejection follows Netanyahu’s recent declaration that Israel would not withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border, describing it as a “lifeline” for Hamas and essential for Israel’s security. Netanyahu stated that maintaining control of the corridor is critical for fulfilling the goals of the ongoing conflict.
