Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyanskiy, expressed Moscow’s concern on Friday regarding reports that the United Nations might halt its operations in Gaza. He urged the UN Security Council to take steps to prevent this scenario.

During a Security Council meeting on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Polyanskiy highlighted concerns that some Israeli politicians might be interested in seeing the UN cease its activities in the region. He emphasized the importance of the Council’s efforts to ensure that this does not happen, as humanitarian workers are eager to continue their vital duties in Gaza.

The UN announced on Tuesday that it had to halt aid operations in Gaza due to a new Israeli evacuation order targeting Deir al-Balah, an area that had become a hub for UN staff in the besieged territory. While a senior UN official initially stated that operations had completely stopped, later reports indicated that some activities were still ongoing.
