The Libyan Foreign Ministry of the Libyan Government-designate announced on Thursday the successful release of 95 Libyan citizens who were detained in South Africa.

In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that through its persistent efforts, the Libyan authorities secured the release of the nationals who had been held by South African authorities.

The Ministry praised the South African authorities for understanding the misunderstanding that led to the detention and subsequently releasing the Libyan citizens.

The Foreign Ministry extended congratulations to the young Libyans on their release, noting that they are now on their way back to Libya.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to serving Libyan citizens, emphasizing that it is the responsibility of the Libyan government and its institutions to protect their nationals both at home and abroad.

Earlier in the day, the White River Court in South Africa had issued a ruling to dismiss the case against the 95 Libyans, who were detained in connection with an alleged secret training camp in Mpumalanga.

The court dropped the immigration violation charges against the Libyans and referred the matter to the South African Department of Home Affairs for administrative handling.
