A military operation in Somalia’s Lower Juba region has resulted in the deaths of 32 members of the terrorist group Al-Shabaab. The operation, conducted by special forces in the Batati area, also led to the arrest of three Al-Shabaab militants and the seizure of their weapons, according to the Somali National News Agency on Wednesday.

Recent security developments in Somalia indicate a continuous effort by the government to improve stability, especially in Mogadishu and other regions affected by Al-Shabaab. The Somali government has intensified its military campaigns against Al-Shabaab, particularly in the central and southern parts of the country.

Efforts to enhance security in Mogadishu have shown success, with the capital city now reported to be safer due to increased security operations. These operations have targeted criminal activities and militant threats, leading to a more stable environment where citizens feel safer moving around the city. Additionally, the Somali government is also working on strategies to replace the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) with a stronger domestic security framework by the end of 2024.
