Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide expressed his country’s concern that Lebanon should not become a casualty of escalating regional tensions during a phone call with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bouhabib on Thursday.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry issued a statement highlighting its diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent further aggression by Israel against Lebanon.

The conversation focused on ongoing efforts to avert a full-scale war due to Israel’s heightened military actions in Lebanon, Iran, and Gaza.

Eide emphasized Norway’s commitment to working with all relevant parties to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation. He stressed that safeguarding Palestinian interests and achieving a ceasefire in Gaza are crucial to avoiding a broader regional conflict.

In response, Bouhabib condemned Israel’s attacks on civilians in Lebanon, calling them a blatant violation of international law.

The region is experiencing heightened tensions following Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr in Beirut’s southern suburbs and the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
