Basel-Mulhouse EuroAirport, situated on the French-Swiss border, was evacuated on Friday due to security concerns.
This measure comes shortly after a major disruption to France’s high-speed train network, which was targeted by a significant cyberattack.
The airport’s official website confirmed the evacuation, stating, “For security reasons, the airport has been evacuated and is currently closed.”
This development follows a massive cyberattack on France’s high-speed train network (TGV), which has led to widespread disruptions.
Eurostar announced the cancellation of train services between Paris and London on Friday, attributing the decision to the attack on the TGV network, which has severely impacted the entire French rail system.
In response to the disruptions, Eurostar has rerouted all high-speed trains arriving at and departing from Paris to conventional rail lines for the day.
The disruptions are expected to continue, with significant delays likely to persist throughout the weekend.
French media reported that the cyberattack aimed to “paralyze” France’s rail network, particularly affecting high-speed trains.
The incident has caused considerable upheaval in France’s transport infrastructure, just days before the official opening of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games officially commenced on July 24, two days before the formal opening ceremony, and are scheduled to run until August 11.
